- Kennedy Junior High school closed in the spring of 1983, making about half of the members of the Class of '84 some of the final Fraser students to attend classes at the building that first opened as a school in 1929. The final Kennedy students left FHS as members of the Class of '87. After spending more than 10 years as a campus for Macomb Community College, the Kennedy building is once again hosting a public secondary school. The Arts Academy in The Woods purchased the building from MCC and now runs a fine arts focused 4-year high school there.
Sports
The Fraser High School football team reached the Michigan Class A finals during the sophomore year for the Class of 1984. Prior to that in the fall of 1980, the Ramblers went 4-5 playing in the National division of the new Macomb Area Conference, which was formed partially out of the Bi-County League where Fraser had played since 1957. That season led to the magical fall of 1981 when the team won the National division, compiling a record of 9-0 and claiming the school's first-ever birth in the state playoffs. The Ramblers advanced to the state finals against Escanaba with wins against Royal Oak Kimball and Detroit Cooley. Unfortunately, the dream of a state championship ended on the turf of the Pontiac Silverdome with a 16-6 loss to the Eskymos on November 27, 1981.
The football team continued to enjoy considerable success, losing only two games by a total of five points in 1982 and just one game by three points in the senior season of 1983. Unfortunately, in those days very few teams advanced to the state playoffs and the Ramblers were shut out from another attempt at winning a state championship in football.
While the football team fell just short, the school's hockey team completed their dream, delivering Fraser High School its first state championship during the Class of '84's junior year. Compiling a 23-3-3 record, the Rambler icemen toppled Detroit Catholic Central 7-2 at Flint's IMA Arena to claim the big prize.
